Camp Is Important

April 13, 2016

Obviously, we love camp. We live and breath it. We can’t wait to wake up with the sunrise and feel the first cool breeze of the day on our skin. We love to get our hands dirty and explore new places. We thrive on trying new things, and we celebrate the nights we go to bed smelling like campfire. Sometimes, our eccentric love for camp makes people wonder how people could be so passionate about something that only happens three months out of the year. It’s easy. Camp helps kids become who they are. When you send your child to sleep-away camp, you’re sending the message that you know they are brave. You believe in them to be successful on their own—successful at making friends, trying new things, listening to their leaders and being themselves. That bravery is reinforced every minute at camp. Because every minute is a decision, and when kids understand that their parents believe in them, they start to believe in themselves, too. Campers feel safe surrounded by other campers and counselors who are rooting for them to succeed, and an atmosphere of safety inspires courage to help kids say “yes” to singing silly songs, learning how to zip-line and stepping up for the high ropes course.
