YMCA Trout Lodge & Camp Lakewood will put Christian principles into...

Kristen Yeager

Nickname: Kiwi
Hometown: Florissant, MO
Age: 18
University:Missouri State University
Major: Outdoor Education/Park and Wildlife Management
How long I've been at Lakewood: 5 years
Sports/Hobbies: Water sports are my life! I love to swim, kayak, canoe, fish, snorkel and basically anything else involving water! I also love volleyball, soccer, football, wiffleball and other outdoor games. I enjoy hobbies such as sewing, pottery, friendship bracelet making, and just about everything I try!
Why I chose to work at Lakewood this summer: I chose to work at Lakewood this summer because I absolutely love kids. They are the future of our world, and expanding their minds is debatably the most important focus of my job. Teaching teens how to do things out of their comfort zone (whether it be water sports, doing something new, or just making new friends) is my goal here!
My dream job: I really wish I could be an actress. I think it would be so glamorous and fun! Or, I would love to be an artist of some sort.
Future career: I am very excited to become a park ranger or Outdoor Education specialist at a camp like Lakewood!
How I chose my nickname: I actually did not choose it. When I was a Counselor in Training, I lead a name game where you say your name and then a type of food beginning with the same letter as your name (Ex: Amy, apple). I said "Kristen, Kiwi" and the food stuck as my name!
The best part about camp/kids: How magical this place is. Kids can participate in all kinds of activities they never would have dreamed of and when they leave, all they talk about is coming back! It's so awesome!
One thing I hope to experience this summer is: Meeting new and seeing old campers and showing them the joys of just being themselves.
One thing children will remember most about me: My spunkiness and motherly-type attitude (caring for everyone!)
My favorite food, animal, song, book or movie: My favorite food is fresh pineapple, no questions asked! I absolutely love the tropics and oceans (again, here comes my obsession with water!) and pineapple brings me to those places. My favorite animal is the turtle. They are very slow and steady (remember the turtle vs. rabbit story?) and they hardly worry aout anything (or so it seems). As humans, I think we should learn peace and simple happiness from these creatures.
A quote or phrase that best represents me: "No worries, dude. It's totally chill."
