Jon Evans
Greetings All,
My name is Jon and I am originally from Eastern Kentucky. My camp name is "Baloo". A little about me... after graduating from high school I served in the U.S. Army from 1988 to 1993 as a paratrooper. Once my obligation was complete I spent some time traveling, learning and living life. In 1998 I attended Eastern Kentucky University and obtained a degree in Outdoor Recreation. My camping career started in 2000 at YMCA Camp Kern in Ohio as the Trips Leader, taking campers to places such as the New River Gorge in West Virginia for climbing and rafting, Pennsylvania for mountain biking and rafting. In 2001, I was given my first break as the Leadership Director at YMCA Camp Kern and stayed there until an opportunity to work with at-risk youth in a wilderness setting presented itself. I moved soon after to Connecticut to continue my work with the YMCA at Great Hollow Wilderness School with the Regional Y of Western Connecticut. In 2004, I moved to YMCA of the Ozarks as the Director of TEAM Works and have been here since. November of 2007 presented an opportunity of a lifetime by being named the new Camp Director of YMCA Camp Lakewood. My personal interests are whitewater kayaking, mountaineering, backpacking, raising miniature schnauzers and spending time with my wife Kate (whom I met and married at YMCA of the Ozarks). On that note have a great adventure and we'll see you at camp!
