Annual Ozarks Blood Drive Helps YMCA In Its Mission

The annual YMCA of the Ozarks Blood Drive welcomed 31 volunteers and produced 22 units of blood.

As MelG and I stated in the very first blog, it’s hard to explain why it’s so great to work here. We started this mainly to show the day-to-day life at YMCA of the Ozarks so you can see for yourself what it’s like to work for an institution that actually cares about helping people. Yesterday’s blood drive is a prime example.

According to the American Red Cross, five million people receive blood every year. It’s my understanding that each patient receives about 4.5 units. That being said, our wonderful volunteers comprised of staff and guests just helped or possibly saved four people. FOUR people! It’s not every day people go to work knowing they are going to help someone. At YMCA of the Ozarks, it’s pretty common.

The American Red Cross also says that only 5% of the population donates blood. Our health system would not work without the volunteers who donate. Part of the YMCA’s goal is to strengthen the community, and we ask for your help in doing so. The next American Red Cross blood drive will be held at the Edward Jones Family YMCA, July 27th from 3:30-7:30 p.m. As the American Red Cross says, “together, we can save a life.”
