THE FOLKS WHO MAKE
“Welcome to Camp!” Those three simple words mean so much. They mean we would like to invite you to join our camp family and experience the journey that is YMCA Camp Lakewood. They mean welcome home to the countless campers, staff, and alumni who call Lakewood their home away from home, and the family that is always thrilled to have them back. They mean adventure lies around every corner. They mean life-long friendships are waiting to be made. They mean the time has come to discover your favorite you. “Welcome to Camp!” means we have something very special going on at YMCA Camp Lakewood, and we would like you to become a part of it.
A wise man once said, “Give me a swimming pool, a basketball court, and the world’s greatest summer camp staff, and I will run the world’s greatest summer camp.” One look at our 5,000 acre facility with its private lake will tell you we have the first two criteria covered. Spend one day with our staff, and you will quickly understand why we are so proud of the work we do. Spend a session with us, and you will understand the wisdom of that very wise man. Come join our camp family, and you will discover what it means to call YMCA Camp Lakewood, “MY CAMP!”

It’s no secret that YMCA Camp Lakewood has the most amazing group of young men and women who come from the world over, as well as from right here at home. They are highly trained counselors who love to have fun, make “safety first” their personal responsibility, and also to meet the emotional needs of each individual camper – including those first-time campers who are away from home for the first time or who are a bit shy about fitting in. Because of the incredible diversity of our counselors, campers learn about different cultures and traditions, and a whole new world is opened up to them. Our camp counselors have great camp spirit that always rubs off on all of the campers, which will be evident when your child comes home with a big smile, a sun-tanned glow and song in their heart, singing “Mr. Moon – moon, bright and shiny moon…!”
We know that parents want to know the counselors who are taking care of their children. Take a moment and read the bios of these amazing young men and women who love Camp Lakewood just as much as your camper does. They all have their own unique personalities and have funny camp names, but they take great pride in being a Camp Lakewood counselor. It’s guaranteed that your camper will extoll the amazing virtues of at least one of these counselors upon his or her return from camp! Meet them now…
