SUMMER IS
IN SESSION.

“My son has so much fun with you all. This is his second year and can’t wait for more. We currently live in Virginia and we drove all the way out here just for him to attend this camp! He will be back for many more.” – Angela (2016)

“He meets other kids and has to negotiate relationships since he is an only child. The enthusiasm of the counselors is contagious and he comes home, literally, a different child.” – Christine (2016)

PRICING STRUCTURE

We realize that families have different abilities to pay, so we offer a VOLUNTARY 3-tiered pricing program for Main Camp, East Camp, Jr. Rangers and Rangers. The price you choose in no way influences the quality of experience each child receives.

(Tier 1) Full and actual cost of a child at camp: This includes direct expenses and long-term wear and tear.
(Tier 2) Partially subsidized rate for those families who can pay a little more than the subsidized rate: More accurately accounts for the true direct cost of camp.
(Tier 3) Subsidized rate: This price does not reflect the true cost of camp.

We offer scholarships to those who qualify to ensure that all children have this wonderful opportunity. See Financial Aid information in the “For Parents” page.

TRADITIONAL SEVEN-DAY CAMP PROGRAMS

Main Camp (ages 8-12)

Main camp is our traditional seven-day summer camp program for children ages 8 to 12. It is called main camp because it is located in the central or “main” portion of Camp Lakewood. Upon arrival, each camper is welcomed by our caring staff and introduced to their cabinmates for the week. They receive a tour, take their swim test, and sign up for their clinics. Swimming ability and age prerequisites apply for some of our activities. The campers also gather as a cabin each day to play, learn, bond, and make life-long friendships. Campers also get the opportunity to play all-camp games, unit games, and do cabin activities. Each cabin will also venture into the outdoors for an overnight where they sleep under the stars and cook meals over a campfire. Additional electives are available, which absorb two of the four clinics in which they will participate.

MAIN CAMP PACKING LIST

East Camp (ages 13-16)

East camp is our seven-day summer camp program for teens ages 13 to 16. It is called east camp because it is located in the eastern portion of Camp Lakewood on the other side of the lake. East Camp is a more primitive camping experience, with rustic non-a/c cabins and a centralized bathhouse/restrooms. Teens who call East Camp home during their week (or more) at camp will experience new friendships (some lasting decades – just ask our Camp Lakewood Alumni) and character development that will make a positive impact on a their lives while still allowing them to be young and carefree. In addition to individual, cabin and group activities, there are additional optional electives available that will encompass two of the four daily clinics if chosen.

Mini Camp (ages 6-8)

Mini Camp is a closely supervised four day introduction to camping with lots of individual attention for first-time campers. We maintain a ratio of at least one counselor per four campers. LEADERSHIP CAMP PROGRAMS

Leaders-in-Training (age 16)

Age requirement: Must have completed your sophomore year of high school

This two-week LIT program is a challenging camp experience designed for campers looking to become better team players and builders, problem-solvers, communicators, and to help campers figure out who they are or the type of person they want to become. The program encourages teens to discover their personal potential and emphasizes the importance of self-reliance. The two-week experience will push campers and help them evaluate themselves. At the end of the program, the LITs will be put through a test just to prove how far they have come in their time spent at camp.

LIT is not a counselor training program! LIT’s will focus on their own development.

Counselors-in-Training (age 17)

Age requirement: Must have completed your junior year of high school.

The three-week CIT program offers our oldest campers the opportunity to get a head start on training skills they will need to someday become a summer camp counselor. The three-week course begins with a week of intensive child care skill training and program training. In the second week, CITs will shadow camp’s best counselors in our youngest cabins while still receiving more active hands-on training. In the third week, CITs will be put to the test with all of their training skills, as well as their past week’s experience in the cabin. This is a highly rigorous program and all interested campers must complete an application/interview to be considered for the program. APPLICATION & REFERENCE FORMS CAN BE FOUND IN THE CIT SECTION ON THE “FOR PARENTS” PAGE.

Applications are due by April 1st. Participating in this program does not guarantee hire for next summer as a cabin counselor.
