THANKSGIVING AT TROUT LODGE

Thanksgiving – the ultimate family celebration. It’s when we are thankful for all of the good things and loved ones we have in our life. When you make Trout Lodge your family tradition, you’ll experience awesome year round activities that will keep your whole family busy for days. Then on Thanksgiving Day, enjoy a wonderful family-style meal – with a turkey and all of the trimmings at every table. With no cooking or cleaning, you'll have more time to enjoy time spent together. Afterwards while other families are at home snoozing on the couch, your family will be zip lining or taking a horseback ride, hiking, doing archery or riflery, or visiting our Arts & Crafts center - we have 40+ year round activities. We welcome you to stay as many nights as you wish.

On November 28 your family is also invited to experience our Pioneer Christmas Village, complete with carolers who liven the streets with songs of Christmas joy, demonstrations from times gone by – apple press, branding, blacksmithing, dutch oven cooking, and more. Kids will have a blast painting hand-made clay ornaments, making yarn dolls and yo-yos, stringing popcorn garland and candle-making. We’ll have storytelling by Father Christmas and more. Create a tradition at Trout Lodge when your family gathers for a homestyle and memory-filled holiday.

Themed activities will take place on Thursday and Saturday. Enjoy our year round activities EVERY day!

10 Things to Look Forward to in 2016

February 18, 2016

single-blog

March Here’s to the necessary time between the holidays and the summer sunshine that keeps us motivated: Spring Break. We have themed spring break weeks plus discounted rates March 11 through March 31! April We can’t pick a favorite season—they’re all beautiful here. But we got the best of at least two in our summertime in the springtime themed weekend in April! May Moms are the best! They feed us, clothe us, listen to us talk, make us laugh; they pretty much do it all. So it makes sense that we’d rank Mother’s Day as one of the top 10 things we’re pumped for. June Any guesses for our favorite part of summer? If you guessed Summer Camp, you are right! We love adventure, friendships, zip lines, Zorb balls, swimming, splashing, campfires, singing, exploring—there is nothing we don’t love about camp! July Ah, midsummer. Right about the time when pools and museums start to lose their magic. But we have tons of things like Canoeing, Horses, Exploration And Summer Fun With Your Grandchild Adult Program to look forward to! August Adult programs are some of the coolest things we offer. One we are really excited about is Looking on the Bright Side, but there are plenty more where that came from. Wine tastings, cave explorations, SCUBA diving—the list goes on and on! September Family Camp happens Labor Day Weekend! Our two favorite things: Family and Camp, rolled into one nice, neat package. Plan now to take the weekend to explore our campus, unplug in nature and reconnect with one another! October There seems to be a definite theme here . . . our favorite things all include family and the outdoors . . . and October is no different. Thing to Look Forward To #8: Overnight family group adventure. November Girl time is the best at Trout Lodge, and the months between February and November are so long. But in November, it is finally time for Outdoor Women’s Wellness! It’s the best part of every sleepover we’ve ever been to all combined into one awesome weekend. December Even though it seems like ages away (and we’re admittedly a little sick of the cold), we’re still sort of excited for the Lodge covered in snow, Christmas crafts, New Year’s Eve and more—but maybe we should just get through Spring first ;)

Winter Activities for Kids!

November 25, 2015

single-blog

Indoor Campfire Being stuck indoors is a huge bummer in winter, for parents and kids alike. Here’s an opportunity to explore your creativity and use your imagination. Set up a tent in the living room, pack up snacks, make s’mores in the microwave or over the stovetop, and craft this “indoor campfire”! Since it’s so close to home, the whole family can get in on this camping trip. Snow ice cream  This tasty treat is easy to make! Plus, once you have the ice cream made, it becomes a new fun activity of dressing up your sundae! Bon appetite! Felt Christmas Tree For younger kids, this is a great way to keep them engaged, and it’s a game that can be played over and over again. Unlike the real Christmas tree, your kids can pull ornaments off this as may times as they want. Put it on a wall near your own workspace and keep them busy while you get your holiday to-do list done!  Need more ideas? Call 888-FUN-YMCA. We’ll keep them busy December 27 – 30 at Winter Camp! Thanksgiving Crafts

November 10, 2015

single-blog

Turkey Day is coming up! For decorating your home or having fun with family, check out these incredibly fun (easy) crafts.

Spruce up your house, whether you’re hosting the holiday or not. Votive candles are awesome for ambiance—and so easy to do. These three different candle holders are definitely on the list of our favorite crafts.

If you have little ones, then you cannot be without something to entertain them this holiday! Help them get into the spirit with the Thankful Tree! Use sheets of brown, orange, red and yellow construction paper to create a tall tree full of grateful leaves.

Okay, and we know it’s totally unreasonable to make 30 Thanksgiving desserts (unless you wanted to make one every day all month long and into December!) but we cannot help ourselves. They’re all a terrific addition to your table this year, so pick your favorite!

If you love Thanksgiving traditions, join us this Thanksgiving! We’ll make all the food and you make all the memories! Call 888-FUN-YMCA for reservations.

Things Everybody Loves About Their Families

August 03, 2015

single-blog

Families are pretty spectacular, so in honor of our upcoming Family Camp, we’ve made a list of reasons we love them. They like you. Board game feuds and dirty dish arguments aside, families tend to be our biggest fans. They like our ideas, listen to our stories, clap for our made-up songs; they’re always there to lend a helping hand or an encouraging word, and most of us couldn’t be more grateful for it. Plus, as an added bonus, most of the time, our families have seen us at our proudest and weakest moments—and they’re still our biggest fans! What a wonderful thing! They share the big moments. They’re there at the sporting events, grade school productions, toddler birthday parties, high school graduations, weddings, and major holidays. Having you sister and brother with you makes gatherings instantly more fun, and there’s always an excuse for Grandma to make cookies or Mom to pack snacks! They get you. There’s no denying it. No one will ever understand you like your family. Because they’ve been there for all the important parts: the growing pains, the awkward moments, the victories big and small, the embarrassing stories, the laughter, the triumphs—everything. They’ll laugh at the jokes you make about your crazy great uncle or stand by the cousin who has decided to dye her hair electric blue right before picture day, because they understand what it means to be a family. They share a collective memory. Between family, there’s always someone to remember everything you’ve done together and why it was special. You’ll always find someone who can tell you who is in what picture, what they used to do for summer vacations and what everyone was like as a little kid. It’s what makes photo albums, holiday gatherings, home videos, and family time so fun. Celebrate your family this Labor Day with YMCA’s Family Camp! Make memories that will last a lifetime.
