You could have your family reunion anywhere. We know that. You could spend days, weeks, even months planning, scheduling, researching, booking, planning more, emailing, texting, calling, planning even more, cooking, meal planning, prepping, more emailing—yikes! Because when you take on a family reunion all on your own, it’s admirable (and we think you’re awesome). But it’s also stressful. You’ll have to come up with places for everyone to stay, directions for everyone to get there, meals to keep everyone fed—not to mention activities to keep kids from 1 – 99 entertained! Call us crazy, but we think the most important thing about a family reunion is—well—the family party. That’s where we come in! At Trout Lodge, we’re experts in planning big. When you book here, your focus can be your family. We’ve got lodging for every size family, meals to satisfy even your pickiest eaters, and enough activities that we guarantee every cousin, aunt, sister, brother and nephew will find something they’ll call their “new favorite.” Check it out ten more reasons to book with us here, or call 888-FUN-YMCA and let’s get started planning the perfect reunion for your family.Next Post
10 Things We Love About Mom
April 07, 2016
There’s no doubt about it. Moms are awesome. Since Mother’s Day is coming up next month (Sunday May 8—don’t forget it!), here are 10 things we love about moms. She taught us everything we know. How to talk, how to dress, how to tie our shoes, how to be polite—everything we do every day we owe in large part to Mom. Thanks, Mom! She makes the best snacks. What is it about our Mom’s cookies that taste so much better than every other Mom’s cookies? Whatever it is, we sure are grateful we came out on top in that contest. She’s the first person we call. For everything. Good day, bad day, hired, fired, pick me up, I am sick—you name it, she’s heard it on the other end of the line. She gives great advice. Moms have seen it all. There’s no problem too big for all their Mom Wisdom. Which means no matter the issue, the advice will be great. Even when we don’t take it and have to come back for more advice later, it’s still good advice! She has an awesome sense of humor. Not only do moms make us laugh harder than anyone, they know pretty much every detail from the beginning of our lives, so they understand every joke we tell. It doesn’t hurt that we probably inherited some of her sense of humor, too. She’s our biggest fan. Whether she’s coming to games all dressed in team colors, calling the family to share our news, or pinning our good grades up on the fridge, she’s always here for us, cheering us on. She is the best listener we know. Who among us hasn’t gotten into the car, or plopped down at the kitchen table only to start talking and not stop? But amidst all those ramblings, Mom still acts as if it is the most interesting thing she’s heard all day. She was our original chauffeur Before we hit it big and got our driver’s licenses, someone had to drive us around. And here’s to the days she let us put our own music on the radio! And thank goodness for the oldies we learned when she didn’t. She’s our best friend. She’s been there for every big moment. And we wouldn’t have it any other way! She is the most generous woman alive. God bless mothers everywhere who give until they have almost nothing left, but never demand any thank you or pat on the back. The cooking and cleaning and driving and listening and laughing and cheering and teaching—they don’t go unnoticed. But sometimes you make it seem so effortless we forget to say thank you. So thank you! Show Mom how grateful you really are! Celebrate Mother’s Day right at Trout Lodge! We do campfires, massages, games, crafts and all of our usual fun activities. Bring the whole family to Trout Lodge and show her just how much she means to the whole family—and how much you appreciate all that she does year round. No cooking or cleaning required! Thanks, Mom! ;)Next Post
It’s time to get outdoors!
March 07, 2016
Remember when you were a kid and summer was THE BEST THING EVER? Days upon days spent outside doing whatever you wanted. Granted, part of that was the no school thing, but it was also a mindset. You woke up - and whether it’s cause you chose to or your mom made you - you put on your swimsuit or play clothes and headed outside. Outside where the sun was shining, the air was fresh and there were no boundaries besides that pesky backyard fence. Things changes as you get older. Summer for most of us no longer means carefree days spent lounging outdoors; instead it’s carpool, work, meetings, dinner and homework. But it doesn’t have to be! Here are 5 reasons to get up and get outside now! 1. It makes you happier. A 2015 study by Stanford University found that, “Participants who walked through nature showed lower levels of blood flow to the parts of the brain associated with negative thoughts.” 2. You’ll sleep better. Our circadian rhythms are naturally tied to the sun. Spending too much time indoors can alter those cycles and cause sleep problems. 3. It really is a wonderful world. We live in a world with over 23,000 different species of trees alone! This doesn’t count the vast numbers of animals, insects, birds and other wildlife that we share planet Earth with. When you think about it, it’s astonishing! Spending time outside allows you to appreciate that. 4. You’ll whittle your waistline. Whether it’s hiking, biking, fishing, golfing or just playing with your kids in the backyard, any form of physical activity is good for you body. In fact, it is recommended you perform at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of intense activity every week. You may not see the pounds or inches fall off, but you’ll be doing your heart good and every little bit helps! Plus you’ll get the Vitamin D your body needs, naturally. 5. You’ll be more productive. We know you can’t say goodbye to the carpool, meetings and work forever, but you can be more focused and alert when you’re there. A study published in Psychological Science found that nature can restore attention levels by giving you a break from everyday overstimulation. Lucky for you, we have 5,200 acres of great outdoors at YMCA Trout Lodge that we would love for you to come explore! Take a look around our website and see all that you can do at Trout Lodge. Then either book your getaway with us or give us a call at 1-800-FUN-YMCA and we can tell you more all we have to offer!Next Post
10 Things to Look Forward to in 2016
February 18, 2016
March Here’s to the necessary time between the holidays and the summer sunshine that keeps us motivated: Spring Break. We have themed spring break weeks plus discounted rates March 11 through March 31! April We can’t pick a favorite season—they’re all beautiful here. But we got the best of at least two in our summertime in the springtime themed weekend in April! May Moms are the best! They feed us, clothe us, listen to us talk, make us laugh; they pretty much do it all. So it makes sense that we’d rank Mother’s Day as one of the top 10 things we’re pumped for. June Any guesses for our favorite part of summer? If you guessed Summer Camp, you are right! We love adventure, friendships, zip lines, Zorb balls, swimming, splashing, campfires, singing, exploring—there is nothing we don’t love about camp! July Ah, midsummer. Right about the time when pools and museums start to lose their magic. But we have tons of things like Canoeing, Horses, Exploration And Summer Fun With Your Grandchild Adult Program to look forward to! August Adult programs are some of the coolest things we offer. One we are really excited about is Looking on the Bright Side, but there are plenty more where that came from. Wine tastings, cave explorations, SCUBA diving—the list goes on and on! September Family Camp happens Labor Day Weekend! Our two favorite things: Family and Camp, rolled into one nice, neat package. Plan now to take the weekend to explore our campus, unplug in nature and reconnect with one another! October There seems to be a definite theme here . . . our favorite things all include family and the outdoors . . . and October is no different. Thing to Look Forward To #8: Overnight family group adventure. November Girl time is the best at Trout Lodge, and the months between February and November are so long. But in November, it is finally time for Outdoor Women’s Wellness! It’s the best part of every sleepover we’ve ever been to all combined into one awesome weekend. December Even though it seems like ages away (and we’re admittedly a little sick of the cold), we’re still sort of excited for the Lodge covered in snow, Christmas crafts, New Year’s Eve and more—but maybe we should just get through Spring first ;)Next Post
Getting the most out of 2016
January 12, 2016
New Year’s Resolutions Happy new year! The dawning of a new calendar year is traditionally a time when everyone makes new, refreshing promises in the hopes of a better year. Otherwise known as: New Year’s Resolutions. New year’s resolutions are a funny thing. They creep up on us at the end of the year and demand big changes from us in the aftermath of the most stressful time of year (the holidays). So it seems like attempting to make major life adjustments in the glow of this exhaustion is just a recipe for failure and frustration. If we try to take on too much at once, resolutions can become this list of all the things we don’t like about ourselves—all the things we want to change. But there’s good news. Not every improvement has to be made in January. It’s a new YEARs resolution. You have until 2017 to get it right. An entire year! So look ahead. Fill up your calendar now with things that are the most important to you. Use the energy of New Years to plan out a year that keeps your resolutions! All the way to next January! See your resolutions as a chance to learn about yourself and create the priorities you want to have. At Trout Lodge, we specialize in helping people find who they want to be. There’s a lot to be said for resolutions that encourage you to get back to nature. To unplug your phone and seek a place without reception. To take your family or your friends and spend the weekend together laughing and adventuring, trying things you’d not ordinarily get to try. Our calendar year is already packed full of awesome opportunities. So whether you’re resolution is making time for romance, or spending more time with friends, or making your summer vacation the most memorable one yet, we have got you covered.Next Post
The Family We Choose for Ourselves
January 05, 2016
Ever heard the old saying that friends are the family you choose for yourself? Being a friend is one of the most important things we’ll ever do. When we find people that we have common interests in, those people become the ones we can depend on for everything. Trying to make time for friendship can pose a challenge sometimes. But it’s important. Because the people we surround ourselves with are the people who help us find ourselves and become the person we want to be. Never underestimate the power of being able to be yourself—sporting pajama pants and goofy hairstyles, sharing secrets, and pigging out. We need to nurture these relationships. So, here are five fabulous ideas for celebrating your friendship this year! Baking Day Pinterest is boiling over with good ideas for new recipes to try out. Grab a whole mess of aprons, some snacks to inspire you, crank up some tunes and try your hands at a smorgasbord of new foods. Movie Night The simplest, quickest way to get together is to rent a movie or peruse Netflix. Make it an old classic favorite or a new movie you’ve been wanting to see. Pile up the pillows, pop the popcorn and brace yourself for the bouts of laughter ahead. A New Restaurant Getting together for dinner has its perks—no one has to cook, everyone gets a night out in the middle of or after a busy week, and you have a few uninterrupted hours to catch up. No matter how busy your schedule is, try to find those few hours for the sake of friendship and fun. And while you’re planning, pick a new restaurant you haven’t tried yet, just for another level of excitement! Learn a New Hobby The friends that learn together, stay together. Learning a new skill, whether you’re teaching yourself with an internet video or taking a community class, is a great way to make lasting memories. It’s something you’ll be able to share and do together for years to come. If you need some ideas, here at Trout Lodge, we have tons of opportunities to try new things with your friends. Check out our events calendar for events like Scrapbooking Weekend and more. Women’s Wellness Weekend We know the power of a good weekend away with friends, and that’s exactly why we have the Women’s Wellness Weekend. Join us for three days packed full of classes, activities, live music, vendors, delicious food and bonding! Reconnect with your friends. Register you and your girlfriends today online or by calling 888-FUN-YMCA!Next Post
